Bankruptcy Court Information: Northern District of Iowa

In Iowa we have two bankruptcy court districts, the Northern District Bankruptcy Court and the Southern District Bankruptcy Court. Each serves the entire state meaning you can file your Iowa Bankruptcy in either district because they both have broad power to hear cases. Among the resources from the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Iowa are bankruptcy fees, approved credit counseling, federal bankruptcy court links which includes district and appellate courts and PACER, the bankruptcy reform act (new bankruptcy law) which took effect in October 2005 and encourages people with higher incomes to file a Chapter 13 instead of a Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

The Northern District Court also provides information on handling tax debt in bankruptcy, although as a general rule, tax that are less than three years old or for which tax returns were filed late are not discharged, financial management class information and means test information, which concerns when debtors can file a Chapter 7 and when they can file a Chapter 13.

Bankruptcy Court decisions for the Northern District are searchable for decisions from the Northern District.
